New Reno and SACK TCP implemented in UMTS networks; A performance analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
Universal Mobile Telecommunication System shortly UMTS is seen as the future mobile network. The use of the existing Transmission control protocol (TCP) as transport protocol in an UMTS environment is an understandable choice. TCP is the most commonly used transport protocol on the internet, and if it will be used as transport protocol in an UMTS environment, the UMTS devices will be compatible with today most used internet services such as mail and HTTP. To implement TCP in a third generation network such as UMTS there has been made several recommendations. In this paper the performances of two TCP variants are evaluated and compared, namely TCP New Reno and TCP SACK. When the results are analyzed there can be concluded that with the recommendations a positive performance difference is achieved. There can also be concluded that in most cases TCP SACK performs better than TCP New Reno.

An Improved Snoop for Tcp Reno and Tcp Sack in Wired-cum- Wireless Networks
TCP is the most widely used transport protocol originally designed for wired networks. But many experiments have shown that its performance is poor when used in wireless networks. Also improving its performance in wired-cum-wireless networks preserving the end-to-end nature of TCP is a difficult task. To address this issue, several new protocols and TCP modifications have been proposed. Snoop i...
متن کاملDeriving Fast Recovery Probability as a Performance Measure of TCP SACK in Wireless Links
In this paper, we would like to study the analytical model of Transmission Control Protocol – Selective Acknowledgement (TCP SACK) by deriving its fast recovery probability in wireless links. Recently, there exist several variants of TCP, for instances Tahoe, Reno, New Reno, Vegas, Westwood and SACK. TCP Reno is the most popular TCP implementation in the Internet today. Reno’s fast recovery alg...
متن کاملA Survey of TCP Reno, New Reno and Sack Over Mobile Ad-Hoc Network
Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is often preferred to be implemented at the transport layer of a Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) because of its wide range of applications, which enjoys the advantage of reliable data transmission in the Internet. However, because of some unique characteristics of MANET, TCP cannot offer reliable services while using e-mail, internet search and file transmissio...
متن کاملTCP Performances over Wireless Link deploying Delayed ACK
Understanding the impact of TCP techniques toward wireless environment is important because the need of mobile devices have been significantly increased. Often, many studies showed that wireless environments have crucial impacts to TCP performance. Yet, the effects of delayed acknowledgement over wireless link have not thoroughly been studied. This paper, therefore, investigated the impact of d...
متن کاملA New Scheme for TCP Congestion Control: Smooth-Start and Dynamic Recovery
This paper presents a new approach to TCP congestion control. The new scheme includes two parts: (1) the Smooth-Start algorithm, which replaces the Slow-Start algorithm at the start of a TCP connection or after a retransmission timeout, and (2) the Dynamic Recovery algorithm, which replaces the Fast Recovery algorithm to recover packet losses when a TCP connection is congested. Both algorithms ...
